Derek Daniells was born in Buckinghamshire in 1949, and after a career in business he turned professional in 1993. Dereks work is concerned with the play of light on form, and many of his works follow in the inspiration of the Impressionists, working plein air in the early morning or evening.
Derek communicates his strong passion for nature through his use of oil, pastel or mixed media. The play of light, a subtle tonal shift or an area of shadow, are all elements that underpin the excitement that he aims to capture in his work. From the initial abstract blocks, Dereks brushwork quickly builds to reveal a sensitivity and understanding of his surroundings. His work conveys with feeling and atmosphere, a celebration of life.
Besides exhibiting with a major central London gallery, Derek has had a number of one man and mixed shows. His work makes up many private collections.
