Jo was born on the Isle of Wight in 1969 and studied at Portsmouth College of Art and Design and Leeds Metropolitan University. She travelled widely during the 1990s being commissioned to produce work for a number of organisations. This culminated in television and radio exposure. A move to the United States in 1996 allowed her to continue her development and exhibit with galleries in Michigan.
The ever changing mood of the ocean is a constant source of inspiration for Jo. With a love for, and affinity with wild, windswept places Jo also enjoys capturing the spirit of open landscapes. She will always sketch on site with chalks and charcoal to get a feel for her subject before painting. Small oil sketches will then be worked on in the studio usually with a palette knife and fingers, before being used with the chalk sketches as reference for larger paintings.
Since returning to the Island in 2000, Jo has built a following for her work and now has a number of well-known galleries representing her in both in the UK. Her work hangs in many private collections worldwide.
