Modern British Painters

Terence Clarke

Terence was born in 1953 and gained a BA in Fine Art before completed his MA studies in painting at the Royal College of Art in 1979.
Terence Clarke began exhibiting in the UK and in Europe. His work is focused on the expressive use of colour and he works out of the tradition of French Fauvism and the Scottish colourists. The landscape and light of the South of France features a good deal in his work and recently he has been working with the Spanish landscape near Murcia.
The influence of Matisse can be seen especially in his vivid still life paintings and his work is characterised by a controlled but expressive use of paint. He is much concerned too, with strong compositional drawing and structure. He has exhibited in the UK for thirty years having one man shows and taking part in group exhibitions. He has written extensively for Artists and Illustrators magazine which has a UK and International profile. His work is in collections in Europe, North America and the UK.
