Gordon Radford was born in 1936 in Oldham and is a member of the Manchester Academy of Fine Art. In his hometown he worked as an industrial designer for several years whilst attending the Oldham School of Art. The industrial milieu greatly influenced his earlier works; he was fond of painting the industrial sites and canals of Manchester and Salford.
Gordon paints in a figurative style, one that is characterised by broad brushwork and he succeeds in deftly capturing the play of light. In this way, his style is reminiscent of many leading figurative painters such as Ken Howard. Today he is known for is his coastal scenes from around the British Isles, still life and views of Venice.
Gordon Radford’s work is represented in many private and public collections. Some prominent examples include the Astley Cheetham Gallery, the Howarth Gallery and the Rochdale Art Gallery.
