Walter was born in 1949 and studied at Edinburgh College of Art from 1967-71, graduating in Furniture and Sculpture. This led to a teaching career in secondary education and further education establishments, before he established a workshop in Alloa in 1991 where he works full-time as a painter and sculptor.
Observation is the foundation to Walters figurative works. It is only by taking careful note of the body that he is able to allow the viewer to share the moment with him. Working in oil, his paintings of the female form demonstrate an understanding of the skeleton, muscle composition, skin tone and the ageing process. His amazing draughtsmanship is present is each works for all to see.
Walter exhibits both in the UK with many well known galleries and in the United States. He has won the SPA Alistair Dunn award in 1990 and in 1991 was made a member of the Scottish Artists and Artist Craftsmens. His works are in many private collections worldwide.
