Alex Williams was born in Reading in 1942 and studied at St Martins School of Art and the University of Wales.
After teaching for four years he set up a design and screen printing business. By the mid 70's he had moved to Hay-on-Wye, where he helped create Independent Hay with Richard Booth, designing flags and passports.
A move to Los Angeles followed in 1979, where he began to paint full-time and show in galleries in the USA.
In 2012 his biography was published, "The survival of an Artist, Alex Williams" by Liz Hodgkinson, followed by a move to the Isle of Wight, from where he works. His paintings make up part of many private collects worldwide.
