Marion Drummond was born in Glasgow in 1958. She is largely self-taught and regarded as a leading painter working in Scotland today.
Her work is about light and capturing the beauty of her surroundings. This may be a landscape, studio work or still life. Observation of her subject is key to this process and only when she is happy will she start to apply the paint to her canvas. Using rag or her fingers rather than brush, she becomes one with the new painting. From a semi-abstract work, she will sculpt the oil paint with urgency, tightening the shapes until the finished painting is clear for all to see. Working in this way, Marion is able to capture with feeling the beauty of the subject before her. It is hardly surprising that her work is so keenly collected.
Her paintings make up part of many private and corporate collections worldwide including, Costley & Costley Hotels and Barlow, Lyde and Gilbert. She has exhibited at many well known galleries including the Scottish Academy and the Royal Glasgow Institute.
