Modern British Painters

Ken Howard RA, NEAC

Ken Howard is one of few living artists who are able to capture light so vividly in both oil and watercolour. After art school and working as the official war artist for the Imperial War Museum, he travelled widely painting life and nature with superb honesty and accuracy, demonstrating a magical understanding of light, often found in works by artists such as J.M.W. Turner.

He has exhibited at the Royal Academy since 1964 being elected ARA in 1983 and RA in 1992, having won a number of major awards along the way.

Today he is known for his ability to fuse light and atmosphere in paint. His range of subjects encompasses the studio nude, Venetian scenes and Cornish beaches. His work is to be found in many private and public collections including the Imperial War Museum and Plymouth City Art Gallery.
Sadly, Ken Howard died in Cornwall in September 2022.
